Carl Samuelson, C.E.M., MBA

Associate Director of Strategy

Ever since watching An Inconvenient Truth in 2006, I’ve been committed to solving the climate crisis. Decades later, this work is as important as ever. The path forward requires collaboration, creativity, and “friendly persistence”. Our success will come from finding innovative solutions and business models that create lasting energy and environmental benefits for our buildings and communities.

Carl is grateful to have spent his entire career working on energy issues. Prior to joining Michaels in 2013, he worked on energy via public policy, community organizing, residential energy auditing, and research. Since joining Michaels, he’s led growth in Minnesota and Colorado as a product and client manager, launched new programs, including Strategic Energy Management and Demand Response initiatives, and led research on how electrification can achieve efficiency and carbon reduction for businesses and utilities.  Carl currently focuses on growing Michaels’ impact with new and existing clients by managing our proposal team, developing strategic partnerships, and crafting strategic approaches to new business opportunities.

Carl is a natural facilitator, a strategic thinker, and an effective communicator. He’s a graduate of Saint Olaf College, with a degree in Political Science, a Certified Energy Manager, and completed his MBA from the University of Wisconsin MBA Consortium. He’s served on the boards of professional organizations, including the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance and the Midwest Chapter of the Association of Energy Service Professionals.

Carl is the enthusiastic father of three kids and partner to his wife. Carl loves being around trees: in a hammock, in hiking boots, or on cross-country skis. His other hobbies include pickleball, chess, home renovation, reading, traveling, and cooking.
