Connor Shields

Energy Advisor

Today’s waste could have been tomorrow’s fuel. No matter what role I play in the energy efficiency industry, I’ve found it fulfilling to know that my work can help save even just a little bit of energy (and maybe water too) each day. Not every job offers that possibility. I’m grateful to be doing this kind of work and hope to continue supporting our noble mission for years to come.

Connor joined Michaels Energy in April 2026. He brings experience in utility efficiency program implementation across the Pacific Northwest and California, supporting both residential and commercial programs in outreach and operational roles. His work has spanned initiatives from single-family electrification and energy storage in California to affordable multifamily capital upgrades and commercial Strategic Energy Management in Oregon—an area that continues to hold a special place in his heart.

Connor studied Geography and Urban Planning at the University of Oregon, where he developed a love for maps and old city plans (and stereoscopes!). During his time on campus, he became fascinated by waste diversion efforts, particularly recycling and composting, which he experienced firsthand while working in dining services at the university’s largest dining hall. His interest in energy efficiency was born from his service with the RARE AmeriCorps program, where he served as the sole energy-focused staff member for a small town in rural Oregon—an experience that set him on his current career path.

Outside of work, Connor enjoys exploring—whether that means new places, foods, people, or music. You can often find him hiking, taking a long drive, or at home cooking a meal while listening to his most recent playlist creation. He embraces a balance between structure and spontaneity, keeping life organized while always making time for a long, unplanned adventure on the weekend.
